Question 1
The basic functions of management are as follows:
1. Planning- Manager will be clear on goals and make the decisions on how his or her staff will peruse them.
2. Organizing- Assembling as well as coordinating multiple resources in order to reach their goals.
3. Leading- Managers opportunity to stimulate his or her employees to reach their highest level of productivity.
4. Controlling- Managers will monitor performance and make changes if necessary.
In any working environment no matter how big nor small each and every employee has seen these acts carried out by their respected managers. Here are a few personal experiences in the workplace that will help one to better understand each function.

Question 2
Although each of the four functions seem to go hand and hand it can be a difficult task for many managers to carry them out with poise. Many managers will result to common mistakes such as micromanaging and as recently talked about in class disrespecting his or her employees.
Mangers who micromanage will lose the respect of most employees right away, mainly do to the fact that employees feel as if their managers do not have the confidence in them to carry out a task on their own. For example, a former manager of mine who will remain nameless at times would micromanage me on how to bus tables. He was constantly getting on me for clearing the plates the wrong way or wiping down the table in the wrong direction. Even when I did it the way he asked he was still not satisfied. Although I had confidence in myself that I was doing a satisfactory job I never got that from my manager because of his constant

At times micromanaging and disrespect can go hand and hand. However, in my situation myself as well as my coworkers felt disrespected everyday we came into work. As disused earlier each night as employees walk in the door there is a layout of where each waiter and bussers was stationed. However, with our former manager that layout would not be posted until 5 minutes before service each night. Never giving the workers the proper amount of time to set up their station. When the staff confronted the manager about the issue his response was “it will go up when I want it to”.
Question 3
In the context of ethics managers need to draw a line when it comes to receiving gifts from vendors. Their is a fine line between gifts and bribes and many managers have crossed it.
With that being said it takes great strength and pride for managers not to accept gifts; however, its all about the image of one’s company, if the word gets out that mangers are accepting gifts from vendors it can do harm to their image in the community and can result in a loss of business. It is important for managers to have strong moral values when it comes to the situation of accepting or even offering
