Four Dorm Roommates

The goal of essay paper is to design a solution for a dormitory network for four dorm roommates – Dave, Jerome, Thomas and Phil. These roommates share a common room with an existing high speed internet connection; they also have four separate rooms, four computers, Dave’s laser printer, Thomas’ scanner and a budget of $150 to establish a shared network. This solution will require a purchase a wireless router that can be used to network the four computers and two devices to an existing Ethernet connection point; this will also provide the capability to connect more devices as needed such as cell phones or tablets. However, before the celebration can begin, everything must be connected! First open the NETGEAR Wireless adapter and connect it to a USB port on Phil’s computer, once any drivers are installed as necessary (following on-screen directions) his laptop should be good to connect wirelessly. Secondly open the NETGEAR router, connect the Ethernet cable (from the router box) to the existing Ethernet connection point in the common room, and use the second Ethernet cable to connect the printer directly to the NETGEAR router. Third use one laptop to follow the instructions that came with the router on establishing a connection and setting up a network password (Phelps, 2012). For security reasons, it would be wise to change the generic network password that came with the router (usually the numbers on the back), use something all 4 roommates can remember but would be hard for another to guess. Finally, connect each laptop to the shared network using the network name and newly established password. Use the panel on the front of the scanner to connect it to the network; the scanner can remain in Thomas’s dorm room or be re-located to the common area for all to
