Four Diamond Fund Research Paper

The most fulfilling charities that I have had the privilege of working with is the Four Diamonds Fund. The Four Diamonds Fund works to put an end to childhood cancer as well as relieving patients’ families of the extremely costly treatments. Personally, my family has been affected by cancer from the ages of nine to fifty-five. I began working with this greatly impactful fund in the third grade. Myself, along with the help of two friends and our supportive Principal, began Cupcakes for Cancer, after the passing of my Grandfather. In our small Catholic school, we raised just over $500, in a single day, to be donated to the Four Diamonds Fund; thus, began by involvement. For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

I was able to volunteer at a local bank that was sponsoring the Lake Park Elementary School for the holiday season. The school has over 300 underprivileged students between the ages of kindergarten and fifth grade. Most of the students at that school only have one meal per day. Along with other volunteers, I packaged bags that contained candy, toys, toiletries, a blanket, and a pair of athletic shoes. The bags were able to provide the children with goods that we often take for granted.…

The fact that Xaverian gives students the opportunity to give back to their community last quarter of their Senior year (and high school career) is extremely invaluable. About 15 years ago, I was employed as a Program Liaison and Group Leader for a wonderful non-profit organization in South Philadelphia. This organization focused on providing resources and supports to low income families within an inner city environment. The program operated weekly and was housed in a local elementary school. Usually, students enrolled in the school would utilize our resources services for after-school programming and their parents would request additional assistance such as furniture vouchers, food vouchers, and other social service related supports. While employed at the nonprofit organization I was instrumental in creating several programs that enhanced the scope of our organization, our demographics, and enrollment statistics.…

Blau defines ideology as “a relatively coherent system of ideas about human nature, institutional arrangements, and social processes held by individuals and groups in society” (2014, p. 135). In other words, ideology is how a person sees his or her perfect world, or their worldview. When thinking about a worldview, there are many places that this can come from such as, “common sense, interpretations of daily experiences, and elaborate intellectual doctrines,” and can be influenced by surrounding people (Blau, 2014, p.135). With ideology, there is no right or wrong answers, but they tend to be liberal, conservative, or in-between the two. One of the issues I am most passionate about is women 's rights.…

I came to Hope Orientation in August of 2016, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, fresh off of a summer at SpringHill Camps. My enthusiasm to begin college was matched by over 100 individuals in matching orange t-shirts and I was enthralled. While the other freshman in my group were hesitant to take part in the child-like games, I thrived. Though I didn’t understand the method, I loved the madness: the over-the-top skits, meeting 200 people over the course of one hour, and my favorite, icebreakers. Orientation gave freshman the opportunity to take one last dip into childhood before being slingshotted into adulthood -- and it worked wonders on a group of awkward freshmen.…
