Under this theory, human is self-interested and selfish which his/her behaviour is limited by bonds to others. Human will learn the consequences of his/her behaviour and develop different degree of self-control. Although all people are capable to commit crime, they will be restricted by social control to achieve conformity.

If people have strong bond in belief, it means that people agree and follow the mainstream value system in the society. In this case, South Korea is a male dominance society as mentioned before which he failed to have consistent with. Moreover, Kim had opposite view to universal value such as morality. Kim became irrational after illness that he expressed his intention to have arson to the hospital and doctor who had malpractice. He also showed his willingness to die with as much people as possible without considering the consequences of it (Brooke, 2003). It shows that Kim have weaken belief which have foster him to become an arsonist and mass murder.

However, there is limitation of social bond theory to explain the happening of delinquency. Social bond stated that there are 4 independent components to form social control on human being which maintain conformity and harmony.
