The trait approach is appealing to the organization because it puts emphasis on the role of leadership, and is backed by a significant amount of research validations who support the approach. Additionally, by focusing solely on the leader, this approach provides an in-depth understanding of the leader component in the leadership process. On the negative side, because the trait approach focuses only on the leader, it has failed to take into account the impact of the situation. On the other hand, Situational leadership is a strict approach to leadership that advises how leaders can become effective in many different types of organizational settings that involve a wide variety of organizational goals. Unlike the trait approach, situational leadership focuses on the situation within the organization. Trait approach evaluates what a person has that defines them as leadership material. Likewise, behavioral approach assesses the behavior of the leader, “What makes them tick” you could say. To add, both of these approaches highlight the elements of modeling, which is testing to see if the leader would be willing to do anything that they ask their employee to do. As a leader using these approaches, one must work to show your followers what the practice can and should look like in action. Furthermore, skills approach also shares similarities with trait, and behavioral approach. Like the trait approach, this approach takes a leader-centered perspective on leadership, which improves the organization. Through the skills approach the leader can consider new opportunities to try and get followers on board. Similar to skills approach, the situational approach focuses on how a leader adapts their style to the demands of different situations. Both the skills approach and the situational approach practice transformational leadership. “The concepts of transformational leaders and the organizational change they initiate intuitively support each other.” (Reynolds, 2016)
