ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan is a time when artists and creative minds alike are able to show their work and, if you will, bare their soul. On September 28, 2015 the sun is shining bright, scorching the skin of locals and tourists gathered around venues in the name of art. On the corner of Fountain Street and Division is the Fountain Street Church. The non-denominational, liberal church holds one of the best venues at ArtPrize. It is a piece of art itself with a tower standing tall above the city. Beautiful stain glass windows emit a feeling of grace and warmth in the images of angels swathed in reds, greens, and yellows. During an observation any ArtPrize visitor can grasp the theme spread throughout the old building. I concluded Fountain Street Church had a theme of peace and togetherness. The theme of peace and togetherness inspired me to want to help those less fortunate, the children whose futures are in our hands, and to bring our present society closer. The religious architecture discussed above was chosen by importance and was relayed to the best of abilities in historical order. The effects of stained glass are carried on long after these monumental landmarks originated. The desire to worship amongst glorious light is not forgotten and even today we celebrate religion in well-lit cathedrals, and other places of worship. Stained glass today can be found in places other than religion; however the light they give off is still symbolic of heaven on Earth. We often take the little things for granted when we communicate. Body language in verbal communication, kerning in written communication, and composition in artistic expression. These missed queues aren’t typically a deathblow to the message being communicated. Instead, it’s rather rare that these errors are obvious to an untrained eye unless they point out something painfully obvious, such as bad kerning turning “click” into “click.” In a recent visit to the Florence County Museum, the watercolor “At the Wedding” and it’s study composed by American artist Alfred Hutty demonstrates how subtle changes in composition can influence the perception of a piece.…

On the other hand, the invisible church consists of those who have been redeemed and are truly Christians. They are born again, new creatures, and are indwelt by God (John 14:23). They are the ones who have trusted by faith alone in the sacrifice of Christ on the cross and have repented of their sins. They believe in Jesus as God in flesh (John 1:1, 14, Colossians 2:9) who died on the cross and physically rose from the dead as a payment for our sins. These people are the ones who have been justified by faith (Romans 3:28, 5:1).…

Ever since it’s creation the christian church had an impact on most all communities that it has been apart of, either good or bad. The church has been a launching pad for world changers, revolutionaries, equal rights activist, politicians, and even slave owners. During the time of legalized slavery throughout the United States, slaveowners were frequently christian and used the bible to justify their actions. Although almost every modern branch of christianity believes that slavery is immoral, many church goers of the the pre-civil war America did not. The drastic uniqueness of arts between periods is something that is interesting to look at because one gets to see how much changes can be made due to cultural influences and time. After visiting the Met and seeing the works of art in person, I have chosen the Statute of Dionysus Leaning On A Female Figure and the Standing Buddha Offering Protection to explore in depth. The Standing Buddha Offering Protection is an Indian sculpture made during the late 5th century. It is only 85.5cm tall and it is constructed out of red sandstone.…

During Van Gogh's last years in his life, he painted The Church at Auvers in 1890. Around that time, Vincent suffered from mental illness and some emotional difficulties. Just like his title, Van Gogh's subject is the Church at Auvers. Not only is the church the focal point of the painting, but a woman on the far bottom left walking towards the church looks as if she is somewhat important too. The Church of Auvers painting does not only represent a church and a safe haven to reside, but also captures Van Gogh interpretation of how much he is suffering.…

I think that this art is meant to be relatable to many different people that come across it through out the city. There are many other hearts similar to this that are plastered to walls. Then it was transferred into the “Temple building” where people experienced God’s presence. When Jesus came to dwell among people, He was the Temple instead of the building. He confirmed it; “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days” (John 2:19 NIV).…
