Foundational Biblical Values

From gay marriage, to the Iran deal, to the acceptance of abortion; the fact that America is straying from its foundational Biblical values is obvious. We, as a nation, no longer respect God’s authority or the laws that He has given us. I believe there are many reasons for this, some being, our leaders, our people, and our morals.
Although America has had some great leaders, we have had our fair share of bad ones. When I say this I do not just mean our Presidents. It is also up to our mayors, governors, and congressmen to do what is right for our country based on the Bible. They need to know the true importance of the job they have and make Godly decisions accordingly. Also, leaders are not as strong and determined as they used to be. Was George Washington elected because he was the best looking or the most popular? No! He was elected because he was a strong leader and faithful to God. We need more strong Christian leaders to help our country.

Our people are just as, if not more so, guilty. They sit back and watch as this country God blessed us with goes down the drain. The Christians do not speak up for what is plainly stated in the Bible as right and wrong! It is our duty as Christians to do that very thing. We need to vote whenever possible and we need to educate ourselves and our children on how to not take the information fed to us and find out the truth. We also need more educated Christians to step up and get involved in the government. Do we expect sinners to get involved and fight for the Bible to be more valued in our

The President uses many references from the Bible to try to bring the citizens of America to common ground. In paragraph three he uses a line from the Bible, “The Almighty has His own purposes. ‘Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!’” This line refers back to when he is explaining that the outcome of the war and when that war should come to an end is not in anyone’s power besides God’s.…

In a nation that pledges allegiance to itself under god, religion is bound to become a factor in the politics that govern it. Religion did not start to be integrated into public affairs until the mid 1980s. It was at this time that abortion and other personal issues began to emerge into the political spectrum. By incorporating aspects of the moral being into government decisions, coalitions were formed to unite for certain issues. Due to the increased combination of religion and partisanship, the ideologies of religious politics and political religion became more prominent, as can be seen in the case of abortion described in American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us.…

As much as America identifies with Christianity as a whole, there seems a slightly different motivation as to where our moral guidance comes from. Hugh Heclo looks into more detail on this matter by taking a quantitative approach with his studies: “Even among ‘born-again’ Christians, only 40 percent say they rely on Biblical or church teachings as their primary source of more guidance […] Mainly, it seems, they look to personal, utilitarian calculations. Slightly over six out of ten Americans report that their moral guidance comes from considering what will bring the most pleasuring results to themselves or other persons” (Heclo,66).…

Evangelical Protestants maintain influence in American democracy due to their size and involvement in government. One third of Americans are considered to be evangelical Christians. Evangelical Protestants adhere to a strict moral code and place a strong emphasis on the importance of family values. As a result, they object to gay marriage, stem cell research, and abortion. Evangelicals are firm in their beliefs and form pluralist groups like the National Association of Evangelicals, the Family Research Council, and the Christian Coalition to influence members of Congress to vote in correlation with their ideals.…

According to the Scholastic Children’s Dictionary, the definition of freedom is “ The right to do and say what you like.” In America, everyone is given the freedom of speech, religion, petitioning, assembly, and press. Debates have been going on for the last few years whether or not citizens are really given all of these freedoms. In my opinion, the statement that all Americans are “free,” is not true. Yes, Americans do have some freedoms, but in my eyes freedom is controlled and only given to a certain extent.…

Everyone has morals and beliefs that set a baseline for what they value. Values vary between individuals, but for many, religion is the root from where these values stem from. While it is good to morally question, today personal religious affiliation is increasing in collective matters and actions, expressed in politics, protests, and biased beliefs. It’s important to note that religion and politics are two different domains that should not intermingle, as religion is a personal ideology while politics embody a rational, collective process. Good politics are policy oriented and not concerned with external factors related to politicians and their personal lives.…
