After graduating in 1979, with the experience of volunteering in Juvenile hall, she then developed an interest in working with children and families and that is where she got her first job working with DCF as a Coordinator with the Foster Care Program. Children were her focus and she loved working with them. She complimented Barry for helping her find her voice as she stated she was very shy while attending school and the thought of her going into being an administrator was not something she would do. She stated that by being in this role, it keeps her honest, aware of the challenges of the people she supervised, and she always keeps a case load to stay close to the work.
