Fossils are very important to the study of evolution because it helps us observe long term evolution and what changes occur. According to the Norton textbook, Niles Eldredge and Stephen Jay Gould observed not only long periods of evolution in the exoskeletons of animals, but also rapid periods of evolution. Through looking at fossils you can see that in some instances changes occurred rapidly (Norton 222).

By studying fossils we can learn what the habitat of the animal was. For instance, fossils studied of apes with long arms and short legs showed that they were adapt to live in a habitat with trees in which they use as their transportation (Norton 246). Furthermore, theoretical evolution is considered theoretical because the process of natural selection in times before the development of science can never be fully or concretely proven; only theorized. Taxonomy would be explained as the branch of science regarding the classification of organisms. Paleontology is considered to be the greatest source of empirical knowledge in terms of understanding the history of life.…

Because bones can give us so much information, they became the forefront of archaeological research once New Archaeology replaced the culture history era of American Archaeology. However, it was important that archaeologists had unambiguous references to compare skeletal elements too. By having reference collections to compare to, we were not only able to identify skeletal elements found, but also learn more about important osteological landmarks that vary between the various…

To further his support, he states his three arguments which are observational evidence, the imperfection of nature, and transitions found in fossil records to demonstrate that even though evolution is just a theory, there are plentiful evidence of facts that supports it. The essay was not just about justifying the theory of evolution to the creationist but also to reject the ideas of blindfolded views on scientific creationism.
