Fort Stewart, Georgia was thirty-six miles from Savannah and the town outside of the gate is Hinesville. Along with Ft. Stewart was Hunter Army Airfield as part of the overall garrison. The Garrison Commander was Colonel Taylor Wells, he was five feet, nine inches, short cropped brown hair, forty-two years old. He was married to Mary (Diamond) Wells, they had one child, Richard (Rick) who was seventeen. The largest unit on post was the third infantry division, their commander was Major General James Romney. He was six foot, one inch tall, fifty years old, and short brown graying hair. He was married to his bride of twenty-two years, they had three children, all grown and out of the house. The circuit breakers were at the rear of the house, if was an older home, if not the oldest house on post. He found the box easy enough, he reset all of the breakers and returned to the kitchen and tried again, no luck. He tried the rest of the light switches in the house, and none of them worked. General Romney knew it was getting late, he turned his wrist and looked at his watch, it’s not working. Things were adding up slowly, he and an idea and hurriedly grabbed his car keys and rushed into the garage. He jumped into his Range Rover, inserted the key into the ignition and turned the key, nothing. “Damn.” He said. He exited the vehicle and tried his wife’s Highlander, same thing, both cars failed to turn over. This isn’t good he was thinking, he hurried upstairs and woke his wife and explained the situation. He quickly dressed and headed out of the house. Oddly enough, there was a Lieutenant coming up is walkway, he had come in a Humvee. “Hell of a morning so far!” “Yes it is. Would you please send someone down to get General Gomez and ask him to come and see me.” “Yes sir, I’m on it.” Sergeant Creyton quickly left her desk, it would have taken her longer to get a runner in here to go get the General, then if she did it herself, so she did. She found the General in his office, she told him that General Romney wanted to see him ASAP, “Bought time.” He said. General Gomez hurried down to his commander’s office, “You know what’s going on don’t you?” He blurted out as entering General Romney’s office. “Well, good morning to you Horacio.” General Romney smiled. General Gomez stopped for a moment, looked at General Romney for a moment, “Good morning, sir.” He smiled back. “To answer your question Horacio, I have a clue to what’s going on, yes.
