In this assignment we were asked to find things in Robert Zemeckis 's 1994 Forrest Gump that can be connected to what we have learned throughout this year in United States History class. Events from the vietnam war, the riots, President John F. Kennedy’s time in office and so many more.
In the beginning, when Forrest was telling his lives story to the nice young black lady at the bus station. He telling the young lady that his mother named him after Nathan Bedford Forrest. Who was a lieutenant general in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. Nathan Bedford Forrest was also an early member of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). Forrest Gump also told us watchers about Nathan Bedford Forrest’s involvement with KKK. The KKK was extremely violent against any African American leader. The KKK would also burned crosses on the front lawn of people that had different beliefs or thoughts about certain things. Many whites who helped protect the African Americans were then targeted next.
