Political Analysis Of Forrest Gump

Improved Essays
There were some interpretations of the movie, such as political interpretation. Tom Hanks, the actor of Forrest Gump, said the movie was non-political thus non-judgmental. Nevertheless, there was still a debate on CNN’s “Crossfire” on did the movie promote conservative values or was it just an illustration of the past system, something that was bad and deserved to be changed. Still, the movie was called “aggressively conservative” by Thomas Byers in the Modern Fiction Studies. This was because Forrest Gump followed a more conservative way of life, while his love, and wife after, followed a very different kind of view. Very multicultural, protesting for freedom and peace. Some said that Jenny’s death showcase death of liberal America, and the …show more content…
In 2009, it went in “top twenty five conservative movies” of all time. It was fourth on the list from all twenty-five of them. Professor from Salisbury University argued couple of things from the movie being called conservative. It was a crossfire for the movie in 1995, since there was a class of Hollywood and American Values. There was an apolitical nature behind the movie which managed to get many different political views into it. The movie itself was not politically made to get liberal or republican party more votes, but rather tell a story of a young man who survived many of great disasters and also many beautiful things. James Burton, again praise the movie for non-political association or elements. There were ways that the liberal side was able to “claim” the movie by criticizing the military values, but rather, they concentrated and focused more on what the film did not show, and those are feminist and civil rights movements.
Music in the movie was from singers and bands that were famous during the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s. They feel that Forrest Gump would never buy anything that is not American, and in the movie only American music was in, which is everything that was great in that time of United States of

What makes the satire hard hitting rather than a light comedy is the fact that towards the end of the movie, Bugs Raplin is deemed a threat to the Bob Roberts campaign and labeled as the attempted killer and is shortly after killed by a radical republican. The movie does a fantastic job of building up to the shooting by disarming the audience by making it seem that Bob Roberts is simply a demagogue traveling around singing about the ills of American culture, but the steep drop from pandering to deception is what makes the satire of the American political process successful, illustrating that candidates become juggernauts for their own purposes. The perceived harmlessness of the candidate’s songs only helps to show how appealing to hot button topics and adhering to party lines religiously will get a candidate elected, which is a scary thought that is paralleled especially by recent elections. The point made in this movie is arguably best made through the medium it is presented in, a story. The film allows for development of the story much more rapidly than a regular documentary which in turn allows the filmmakers to tackle the exploits made by politicians much more blatantly.…

This movie shows how the African American men fought for the country in which they agree not to get commission. They also were threatened at a point to if they stayed in the military then they would become slaves or even killed, the general or corporal was also threatening if they kept the African Americans in the military that they will be charged or even sentence to death. As the movie progress when they began their march they met another military group full of African Americans but watch as they stole from houses and burn a town down because of the order that they were giving. The Premise Forrest Gump is a movie detailing the life of an Alabama born man with a low I.Q. In a very realistic fashion, the audience follows Forrest as he grows through his life. Although the movie is a simplistic picture of the life of a single man, it also somewhat satirically details many of the events the fictional character would have lived through and provides a life-like picture of many people with psychological disorders in the acquaintances Forrest makes through his adventures. One of these acquaintances is Jenny Curran, who became Gump’s friend on his first day of school.…

The movie is a total of two hours and twenty-two minutes, and in that relatively short amount of time, several major historical events are depicted. Several students who were interviewed for a research project, were asked questions about their source of knowledge over the Vietnam war. Several students cited the movie, Forrest Gump as their main source of information regarding their knowledge of the conflict. Researchers believe the consistency of the scenes in chronological order, the “good-feeling” theme, and the representation of hope for the common man in the movie, is heavily influential to the students’ memory of what was taking place in American during the time period between 1950 and 1980. The first great line to come out of the movie is one that’s simple and really demonstrates what Forrest’s mother is all about “If God had intended us all to be the same, we’d all have braces on our legs.” Many of the great lines became great due to the editing of sound and film alike. An example of good film editing is when Forrest’s mother tells him that “You’re not different.” Then it cuts to the principal saying “The boy’s different, Mrs. Gump.” We get a lot of comedy out of Hanks’ voice-overs in which he often says something and then we see it happen in the scene.…
