Oscar winning, tear jerker of a comedy ‘Forest Gump’ is both magical and passionate; a film to replenish your energy and refresh your outlook on life entirely. A film that shows morally dubious material transformed through ‘Robert Zemeckis’ shrewdness and technical skills into a truly unique and poetic American Comedy, and with such phenomenon commercial success suggesting hearts were touched worldwide. The hero of the film; A mentally handicapped man (Tom Hanks), but one blessed with innate decency and amazing courage. As media is an important part of everyday life, holding a major influence over society the vitality of disabilities portrayal increases. Media representation of disabled people has not always been a positive one, adding discrimination of disabled people and creating underpinning use of disabled stereotypes such as that all disabled people possess an extraordinary talent that makes up for their disability (Rain Man), or that death is preferable (Million Dollar Baby). It’s refreshing to see a film that is able to handle such a diverse topic in such a brilliant way and mix humor in the process.
‘Forrest Gump’ is so much so an accomplished feat of the ‘cyber cinema’ that it makes
