Have you ever felt that you tried your best at something? That you gave it your all? Just to have your hopes crushed, leave you disappointed, and feel as if you have failed to do what you set out to accomplish? This very same thing happened to me my freshman year of high school. I was new to the Forrest City School District, but I did not let that discourage me. I decided to try out for the Forrest City High School Cheerleading team, but unfortunately did not make it. I spent countless hours practicing and practicing, but it seemed as if it was not enough. At first I did not see what I did wrong. I kept asking myself what did I do that was wrong? What did I do that caused me not to make the team? During that time of tryouts, not only was I dealing with tryouts, I was preparing for a conference track meet that same week. Now I 'm not one to make excuses, but I will admit it was a tad big challenging dealing with tryouts, track, and school during that week. At first I wasn 't going to tryout, I figured that I might as well wait until I get more comfortable with the school. After undergoing much consideration and thought, with the help of my fellow classmates, I decided that, as my mother …show more content…
Although I felt that way, I still knew that I could have tried harder. As the day progress my confidence in my tryout started to grow weary. When they made the announcement that the list was up, my heart dropped. I remember walking up the stair to the arena, where the list was posted, with a nervous feeling in my stomach. As I got a better look a the list, I realized that my number was not up there. So I went back to class with tears streaming down my face, and there was a substitute teacher there. Upon entering the class, the teacher immediately stopped me as I walked through the door. She told me that it was going to be okay, that I could tryout again next year, but at that moment I wasn 't even trying to hear

But my mother didn't see my mindset was changing, she couldn't see I really wanted to do better, that maybe a challenge was needed all she could see were three classes that I was definitely going to fail. She was seeing another year that I chose to choose my extra curricular activities over my future, another year full of excuses, another year of coming home to no studying more attitude and disappointments. And although all that may be true, that was the first time in my high school career that I ever got honor roll. Even though, afterwards I slipped tremendously and spent the rest of the year trying to get back to honor roll my mother, sister and I couldn't have seen that…

Before I began this observation assignment for my SPED class I was nervous and a bit skeptical about how everything was going to be, because I have never observed an inclusion class. After my first day of observation I felt more confident about my career choice. In this reflection paper I will talk about the assignment and all the things I found interesting, important, and challenging. I will also talk about how I overcame the challenges, my misconceptions prior to observing, and how this field experience will affect my education environment. The last things I will talk about is how my future behavior will now be affected by what I learned and how this experience helped me better understand my personal and professional goals.…

Now, when I look back I get really mad at myself for not at least telling the teacher, but then I remember that I was young and didn’t know anyone since it was a new school. But still I could have said something to anyone even, I could have left a note on the teacher desk. But I do remember telling my mom about it once I got home. I think that’s when she gave me a “don’t be a follower speech” and next time don’t be afraid to say something when I see something wrong. Now that I’m older I express my feelings all the time when I see something wrong.…

Some people I knew thought otherwise. In general, I was told that I was wasting my time at college by trying to receive a degree in education. At the end of my junior year of high school, every student was supposed to meet with our school’s guidance counselor to talk about our future plans. During my meeting with the guidance counselor, I was shocked to hear her belittle my plans. She told me “if you don’t get a degree in a S.T.E.M program you will end up with no job and a load of college debt.” Maybe it was just because I was still a naïve high school student, but I always thought that by becoming a teacher I was part of every program since I taught students the basics needed to learn science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.…
