FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF LEVODOPA FLOATING TABLETS

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF LEVODOPA FLOATING TABLETS

Several approaches are currently used to retain the dosage form in the stomach. The principle of the floating tablets is simple and practically approach to achieve increased gastric residence time to obtain controlled release floating tablets designed based on the gas generating principle needs a strong floating matrix former. In this regard HPMC K4M, HPMC K15M and HPMC K100M were tried as strong controlled release floating matrix formers in the formulation of Levodopa floating tablets.

When the tablet is swallowed, the overcoat of the drug will dissolve quickly and the initial release can increase the drug concentration rapidly and it is similar to the stranded release formulation. Then, the beneath layer of drug is a coat with a semi-permeable membrane which can absorb water by osmosis and some of the drugs are a polymer-based coat with a hole on one side or a porous membrane. In the interior of the tablet, the compartment will dissolve from low concentration to high concentration. Therefore, the initial release from the outer coat causes a rapid rise in the plasma concentration which ensures the quick onset of action occurred. The interior part keep releasing by the concentration, therefore, it makes the plasma drug concentration stable and stays between the minimum effective concentration (MEC) and toxic concentration (MTC).…

Analysis In all of the trials, the tablet pills were the first to dissolve out of all of the types of pills, averaging a time of 2 minutes and 2 seconds. This is due to the fact that tablets have no type of coating over them, so there is less for the acid to break down. It looked a little swelled before it broke apart into powder like pieces.…

In order for companies to make money and gain new customers they must establish credibility– ethos– and the best way to do this is with proven tests. These results often leave much to be desired, so companies prey on their audience’s lack of statistical knowledge and skew their results to make themselves stand apart from their competitors. Some of the most common ways this is done is by exaggerating the graph to make their product seem far better than the competition, and upon closer examination shows they actually very comparable. Another common way to skew data is to test it under desirable conditions or to test the product multiple times and only express the results of the best test. Even though these tactics are, simply put, deceptive they are nevertheless effective in convincing consumers to choose their product or else there would be no reason for so many companies play this misleading numbers…

Alteration of plasma drug concentration between doses is between 20 and 25% when once-daily dosing is used. Hypothesis My hypothesis is if the pills are put in stomach acid, then the gelcaps will dissolve the fastest, because gelcaps are just gelatin capsule that hold the liquid inside. So when the liquid is released it will be absorbed faster than the other pills. I base my hypothesis on Gel Caps or Coated? Pick the Right Pill, page 2 that says, “Soft, flexible gelatin capsules hold liquid-which may be absorbed more quickly than regular pills”.…

The dissolution occurs in gastric fluid and after emptying of the stomach contents the dissolved drug is available for absorption in small intestine. 4- Because of site‐specific absorption from the upper part of the GIT, Drugs that have poor bioavailability are potential candidates to be formulated as floating drug delivery systems, thereby maximizing their absorption.…

The Wet Drug by Pete Hamil is about how alcohol is just as harmful as any drug, and needs to be treated the same. Hamil is a former alcoholic and wants to help spread the message that alcohol is a terrible drug. Some examples given are: when a group of drunks beat and then raped a young female at a bar, and when a drunk driver crashed his car and killed his four friends. The author then gives a list of statistics over alcohol in the United States such as, “25,000 Americans will die in auto accidents caused by alcohol.” , “...alcohol is a factor in 86 percent of all homicides, 83 percent of all fatal fires, 72 percent of robberies, 52 percent of wife-beatings, and 38 percent of cases of child abuse.”…

Certain medications may be indicated in different forms based on the patient’s needs and abilities. The most common dosage form is a tablet, which is a ‘pill’ typically taken orally as directed, but some patients such as children, the elderly and those who are recently recovering from oral surgery may find a tablet difficult to swallow, literally. For those who do have difficulty swallowing, a liquid form of the medication called a solution, may be a more suitable way to take the medication although, some medications are not available in a liquid form. Some medications require a coat of gelatin to surround the actual medication, so the medication will not innterphere with or be lost through the digestive process. These medications are referred to as capsules, and while they are not as easy to swallow as solutions they are easier to swallow than a tablet and may be beneficial to the patient.…

What is the meaning of sustained release on medication bottle? Sustained release also means “controlled release”, which means that your medication is made to slowly release in your body over an extended period of time. The reason it does this, is to help you maintain a constant drug concentration to help with pain all day. It is also made to minimize side effects. If you are still in constant pain, we will need to consult with your doctor about possibly getting you on another medication.…

The water of hydration of the copper chloride hydrate sample will be determined as well as the mass of copper and chlorine through a chemical reaction. The results will be used to calculate the moles of copper and chlorine and then the empirical formula of the compound. Techniques used:…
