It is evident that students in Namibia struggle with school because they have no guidance or support from their parents, causing them to fail their grade ten exam. Once they have failed, they are only left with the option of “join[ing] a worldwide pool of some seventy million secondary school dropout[s]” (Hallett). Although it can be overwhelming to see several students fall under, there are always the few who defeat the odds. One in particular shares her story in this article. Twenty-four-year-old Haita Ester was one of the many who attended school up until grade ten and is now the mother of a five-year-old daughter. Ester was curious to know how she could better educate herself in the working world and that is where McCoy comes in. Whilst meeting McCoy, Ester was given the opportunity to question McCoy about the topic of “career development” (Hallett).
