Today I learned a wide range of formative strategies. The strategies ranged from getting to know you community building activities with the stand up sit down and the 6 word autobiography. We were also introduced to anecdotal note cards which is a system the teacher can use to write notes. Another strategy we learned about was sentence stems to guide discussion. After lunch we went over some math strategies like contemplate then calculate and finished it off with academic discussion in problem solving.

    1. How did you analyze your students? My class as a whole seems to understand the term greater/ more than, less than an equal too. In the video, Linda Hammond, stated students, “…need opportunities that are well-structured to allow them to learn those skills and to try different aspects of it.” This was very accurate. Data collected from the formative assessment showed several areas that students did not have critical background knowledge. Students need opportunities in which they will be able to practice the skills they are lacking. Warm up class activities will focus on the skills students are lacking on a daily basis maximizing student learning opportunities.…

It was an exciting experience, and I feel I learned a lot from it – even if I have to go back to the PowerPoint (which was e-mailed to everyone in the class) to take better notes due to having forgotten my notebook at home. Overall, I enjoyed it. 2. In addition to your reflection on the event, connect this participation to chapter 5 key terms.…

On December 3rd, Mrs. Neth allowed an observation of her second grade class. Mrs. Neth teaches at Heber Hunt elementary in Sedalia. At the beginning of the observation, Mrs. Neth’s second grade class gathered at the carpet to talk about what the students read on the previous day. The students were required to read a two page passage and a story out of their textbook; both were about jellyfish. Mrs. Neth began a picture walk while the students were still sitting at the carpet.…

From the moment Mrs. Grier’s preschool room is entered on February 19th the theme is evident. The reading nook is filled with presidential books (some borrowed from the library), the math center is money themed and the walls are adorned with Abraham Lincoln wall cabins. Students file in as normal, moving their pictures from the “home” board to the “school” board, putting away their belongings, and then sitting down for breakfast. When the timer rings and their spaces are cleared they meet at the rug for circle time. A ballot box is brought out-…

Every history teacher has their own unique way of making history engaging. From a young age students have been taught history and after a few repeating lectures the topics become boring to most. For me American and World history were long boring subjects about the past until my junior and senior year with Mrs. Popkins. Mrs. Popkins taught American history to juniors and World history to seniors at Norwalk High School in Iowa. She came into the classroom everyday with an energetic, happy, and enthused vibe about history.…

Overall, I received fair feedback. Although I was able to hit most of the skills from each category there were a few that I missed from each. During the actual practice I was very focused on not messing up and hitting the key points. However, once I was finished and recapping over the session I realized both strengths I have developed and challenges I still need to work on. This experience showed me what I have have learned thus far in class and also what I still have to learn.…

While presenting my groups Rad Town presentation, I saw plenty things that we did well and things we could have improved on or changed. All in all I feel that we had a well rounded presentation. During Dallas’ portion, I think he was a little to loquacious for the good of our project. We could have done a better job helping him explain some of the bigger words and objects that he mentioned. We also could have helped him round up some of his points.…
