Is everyone looking for a perfect partner? In June Callwood’s essay “Forget Prince Charming”, Callwood suggests that she does not believe a perfect partner exists. A relationship will never be perfect, since no two humans can interact frictionlessly (Callwood 322). Although “Forget Prince Charming” appeared in the National Post in 2000, it is still relevant in 2016. Callwood’s essay tells of how she has taught her granddaughters from before they were of marriageable age what to look for within their partner, communicating both the realistic and unrealistic qualities of real-life relationships. The answer is no, as perfection simply does not exist, therefore, no person can be a perfect partner. Of course, each individual’s personal perception of perfection varies, so there must not be a single definition of perfect. She states that “You think I'm pretty without any make-up on. You think I'm funny when I tell the punch line wrong” (Perry). Perry is stating that love can exist, even if neither person is perfect since she describes herself as being imperfect. More evidence towards the belief of a perfect couple not existing is the recent split between Hollywood’s golden couple, affectionately named “Brangelina”. The famous twelve-year celebrity relationship consisting of film stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has recently split, due to Jolie filing for divorce. If they were known as the “golden couple”, a perfect couple, how come they are splitting up? The answer may lie in the blossoming of the relationship. These flaws were pinholes that slowly ripped into canyons, until the two could no longer be
