J coles Forest Hills Drive album is only his 3rd debut album but is considered his best work yet. In the album he takes us back to his childhood where it all began on Forest Hill Drive in Fayetteville North Carolina to his journey to New York city to accomplish his dreams of becoming a rapper. Although he made it he also suffered losing himself but gaining it all back by determining what matters most.
In the intro he asks over in over “Do you want to be happy?” He is starting off by the asking questions of what you would prefer to be free from and in order to be happy you must be free from all worry, stress, and pain. The women he look at as a young kid probably wouldn’t be intersested because he didn’t have the finere things in life. He didn’t have the confidence that he should have had also speaking on how he grew up without a father. He asks “Who am I ?” asking is he any different from you or does he stand out more. he asks his friend if he couldput him in the dope game but his friend refuses because he sees more in him than he sees in himself. He decided not to settle for less and change his ways to show his mother that he appreciates he more.
A tale of two cities he describes of what he wanted the flashy things in life but he realized you have to work hard in order to get it. He dreamed of being trapped in two cities one where you must result to violence to reccieve the finer things in life vs the Hollywood life. Trying to make it to the famous life your surrounded by others who will kill your dream but if they do you let them win
Fire squad at this point he has made it up the ladder trying to make a name for himself. Hes trying to prove what he has but also the ones who he came up around are kind of bringing him down. He kind of has a high head trying to make himself look better than artist that have been out before.
