Psychological classification is referred to as personality types whereas behavioral tendencies as referred to as personality traits. The purpose of this paper is to discuss me and my personality types using the MBTI.
According to Smith (1994) when tested using the MBTI, questions focus “on only one aspect of type along four dimensions: extraversion or introversion, sensing or intuition (which are the perceiving functions), thinking or feeling (which are the judging functions), and the use of judging or perceiving while extroverting” (p. 29) which presented a need for contrast or opposition, hence the need for dichotomous choices. Smith (1994) further discusses:
When an individual takes the MBTI, he or she reports a specific personality type that is based on the personality preferences which they have disclosed in responding to the MBTI questions. For example, introverted sensing with thinking describes a person who deals in the inner world with sensing and judges based on thinking. A complete opposite would be extraverted intuition with feeling, the latter focuses attention on the outer world with intuition and judges based on feelings or values. (p.
