My name is Merceda Armstrong and I’m interested in becoming a forest firefighter. Many people assume that a forest firefighter's job is to stop forest fires but they do a lot more. Forest firefighters looks like an interesting career. My purpose of writing this research paper is to inform people about forest firefighters. I think Forest firefighter’s job is to put an end to forest fires/wildfires or use tools to avoid forest fires; or reduce the harm the fire did. When forest firefighter’s gets a message that there has been a fire they go to the scene. Forest firefighter’s creates a idea to battle the blaze, this depends on the size of the blaze and how the environment is. Most of forest firefighting is done by getting in the way of the fire

Its smart to get a post- secondary degree in fire fighting which is about two years. Some colleges are offering four year bachelor’s degrees in fire fighting. For me to become a firefighter I have to pass a lot of tests and I have to prove my strength, my smarts and I think I can do it. Once you're hired you have to complete training then go on to the real job. People believe firefighters is growing to 7 percent to 9 percent from 2012 to 2022. Currently, about 2 of out 3 situations that firefighters respond to are medical rather than fire emergencies (http://www.bls.gov/ooh/protective-service/firefighters.htm#tab-6). It says jobs will be changed from volunteer firefighters to paid ones. In urban areas there are more firefighters so that means in the future they will need some more firefighters. After 1910, the United States Congress met for preventing and controlling forest fires. This made the Forest Service to get anything it needed. This helped the Forest Service get forestry departments in their own towns and timber protection. On July 12, 1940, Forest Service employees Earl Cooley and Rufus Robinson made the first ever parachute jump on a forest fire(http://www.forestservicemuseum.org/programs/wildland_fire.html) .
