In act 2 scene 3, we come across Lennox stating that, “the night has been unruly...” due to weather issues. He says thing such as “our chimneys were blown down” and “... the Earth was feverous and did shake.” Lennox states this right before they are all informed that King Duncan was murdered. The use of setting in this case is foreshadowing a tragic event that will occur. When Lennox says that the night had been unruly due to weather issues, the setting foreshadows the unruly event that is about to unfold. Seconds later Macduff reveals the news, King Duncan was murdered. After the news is revealed everything that happens afterwards is disorderly and chaotic, similar to how Lennox described the weather of being.
Lastly, setting in Macbeth is important due to the fact that it is able to create conflict. When the weird sisters first meet with Macbeth and Banquo during a stormy day on a heath, both Macbeth and Banquo are given prophecies from the witches. These prophecies are what ultimately create the main conflict of the play. Later on in the play, heaths are seen as very evil and sinister as they are where most conflicts start. The ability of how setting, the heath in this examle, can be said to bring conflict shows that setting has a very big role of creating conflict in the
