In the short story, “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, the narrator was at fault for his brothers death. In this story, the narrator is ashamed of his paralyzed brother. Doodle, had a condition where he couldn’t walk or use the lower half of his body in any way. The narrator tried to teach Doodle to walk for his own satisfaction. The narrator is at blame for his younger brothers death. Some say the he was young and naive, but he still knew the right thing to do. Was he trying to help his brother? Yes, but it was mainly a self gain. When he presented to his parents Doodle walking, everyone thought he was selfless and that he just wanted to help Doodle.
