The very first concern the grandmother stated was to head the opposite direction as the MisFits. She makes it very clear that she does not want to risk running into them because they are escaped convicts. Her growing concern translates to the father. Although he later on agrees with the grandmother, he doesn’t think anything of it. I believe that because the grandmother made so much emphasis on the MisFits, this was one indication to the reader that hinted foreshadowing. As it turns out, the grandmother was right and because of the wrong turn they made during the ride they encounter the Misfits.
