Foreshadowing is one of the most commonly used and helpful literary terms. It can be found in many, if not all, pieces of literature to develop the character’s personalities. For example, in the short story,“The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Poe the foreshadowing helps to characterise Montresor, the main character, as cocky.
