Author O'Henry use foreshadowing to reaveal the characterization and theme of the storys. O'Henry used Jimmy to be the officers but when he showed up, Bob didn't even think you try and see if the officer was Jimmy.

Throught those twenty years bob went through situations that the rest of the world would percive Bob as a criminal. Since Bob was a criminal he thought of the officer to be as the other officers and not even possibly think that Jimmy would also enroll to become a police officer.

Jimmy knew that the man waiting was Bob but he also knew that Bob didnt't recognize Jimmy when he stated "It's all right, officer," he said, reassuringly. "I'm just waiting for a friend. It's an appointment made twenty years ago." At this point Jimmy knew

“A Modern Love Letter” creates surprise by the buildup of the foreshadowing of hints through the story. The structuring on the other hand was chronological order, with a flashback thrown in, to give us a hint possibly. To start off, first off, the first hint was when Isabella “Bella” found the first love letter, in which was written with an old stationery in which “, revealing a single sheet of thick, old-fashioned stationery—the kind I’ve seen only in my abuela’s antique desk,” this statement gives a clue of who possibly wrote this, though I don’t believe Abuela did. However, as Bella was getting theses love letters, however she was confused because as it states in paragraph 3 “I have no clue what the letter means or who might have written…

Once again, “Jimmy” instigates another issue. He sneaks up on the new cop, pins him against the wall, then starts yelling at him. This scene is not quite as eerie as the first one where “Jimmy” is just talking, but the behavior that he possessed in this situation, is not how friends usually act towards each other. Bannerman also seemed as surprised as I was to see “Jimmy’s” actions. Rookie cop Bannerman’s reaction implies that this was not the kind of relationship that the two men had prior to the incident.…

In the short story “After Twenty Years”, a theme that could be developed is, “don’t judge a book by its cover.” This could be a theme because Bob went to go talk to his friend after twenty years, but it turned out that his friend was actually a cop looking to arrest Bob for theft. The theme is don’t judge a book by its cover because in the story the man said, “You’ve been under arrest for ten minutes, Bob.” This means that Bob was not talking to his friend but he was talking to another cop. The cop was not Jimmy Wells.…

Hearts and Hands by O. Henry Literary Analysis BOOM. Then it all clicked together, who the reader thought was the criminal was actually the cop. The ending gets them so awestruck that he or she is a bit confused, but once they go back and read the details, they realize all the tricks the author used to confuse them were not as hidden as it had seemed. The number of characters are so minimal and the story so short that it does not occur that one can be deceived by such writing. This is because O. Henry uses irony, description of characters and theme as details that all interconnect to find the twist of the story.…

Steinbeck's Use of Foreshadowing in Of Mice and Men Every action a character takes is just a means to the end. No matter how small that action is it has some correlation to the story’s conclusion. John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men is an amazing work of classic literature and to the careful reader the ending is clear before the novella is even finished. Of Mice and Men is the story of two migrant, or traveling, workers by the names of George and Lennie, that search for work in the middle of the Great Depression.…
