Forensics is the scientific study of criminal investigation of criminal cases involving a victim, such as assault, robbery, kidnapping, rape, or murder. Forensic scientist use specific tools and technology to analyze data and clues found at the crime scene. Forensics dates back to hundreds of years ago and is used to this very day. Solving a crime takes lots of time and dedication and is nothing like the things they show on television shows. The process takes weeks, not days and things don’t just fall into place like they seem to. There are very few areas of law enforcement where technology and crime-solving work together as one but forensic does just that. Early forensic specialists were self-taught; there were no special schools or formal training. A formal forensic curriculum wasn’t established until 1902 by a Swiss professor R.A Reiss at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. Even after that most colleges didn’t offer degrees in criminology. Some of the biggest developments in forensics was in the 1800 and 1900’s. In the 1800’s there was the first recorded use of questioned document analysis which are documents that are potentially disputed in a court of law. They also had the development of presumptive test for blood or an analysis of a sample tells if a substance is blood or not. These are just a couple of huge discoveries for forensic scientists back then. These discoveries changed so much about how we solve murders and finding suspects and actually having them proven guilty in the court of law. In the 1900’s after a criminal school system was in place there was a new forensic discovery almost every year. Some of the first were using DNA to solve a crime exonerate (prove not guilty) an innocent suspect. Investigators also discovered that all guns were unique which made it easier to tell what gun belonged to whom. The first crime lab was built in Los Angeles in …show more content…
It has been around for hundreds of years and yet we still discovery new things about it all the time. A lot of time and energy is put in to the solving of a crime and it is nothing like it seems to be on
