Forensic Lab Technician Essay

As a forensic lab technician it is your responsibility to collect and analyze evidence collected at the crime scene, they spend most of their time in a laboratory. These are the folks that are called in after the first responders reach the scene. Forensic lab technicians work for either the county, city, and state police but they can also work for government agencies or privately owned laboratories. There are many different things a lab technician can do, all depending on their skill set, level of education and job experience. Some of the many jobs they can perform are, perform biological, chemical, hematological, serological, or physical analysis on a variety of samples obtained t a crime scene. Operate, maintain, and adjust scientific instruments, prepare and package biohazard wastes and materials for external disposal. Jennifer Marie Lunsford was a nine year old girl from Homosassa Springs Florida, she was abducted from her home on 23 February 2006. She was found nearly a month later within eye sight of her home, bound and bagged like garbage. We began collecting anything and everything we could find on and around this shovel. We dusted for fingerprints, we could tell the handle had been wiped clean, but whoever was doing the wiping missed near the very bottom of the handle. We were able to pull off four good prints and a couple partials. We took our black magnetic powder and magnetic wand and began the “dusting” portion of fingerprinting. We took the fingerprint tape and slowly worked it on fingerprint as not to smug it or alter it in anyway. These pieces of tape were then transferred onto index cards to be used later. All of our index cards have been labeled with the case number, date, time and location in which they were found at the crime
