This brought to attention the need for education of nursing staff to improve wound and dental care practices. In the context of law and litigation, discovery of neglect/abuse using myiasis can lead to the closure of hospitals or health care facilities, bringing a stop to injurious practices and effectively criminalize the guilty. For example, the discovery of large amount of third-instar larvae in the faeces of a child was used as evidence to jail his parents for neglect.
