Forensic Analysis: Dead Men Talking

Improved Essays
It was a normal Saturday morning. I had just woken up and my dogs were dying to take a walk. I grabbed their leashes and headed out the door. Right as both the dogs got outside they went crazy. Diego was tugging so hard on the leash, he was only on two legs, jumping like a rabbit. Charlie was scratching my leg trying to get my attention. I reached down to get him off my leg and Diego darted off down the street and around the corner. I thought he had seen a dog, but when I got to him, he was dragging around a whole leg. I looked at the leg and instantly knew it was a leg of a human.
After returning back to my house to return my dogs, I decided that I needed to be doing some investigating. I remember reading the article “Dead Men Talking” I read a few days ago in my free time. In the article Billy Bass a known forensic anthropologist stated, “When you first start off, you want to look at the crime scene and say “”What does this scene tell me?”” So I headed out this time without the

If you see anything else suspicious, report it to us immediately.” Stated one policeman.
“Actually, I was wondering if I could investigate the body. I happen to be a forensic anthropologist myself.”
“If you would be willing to that would be great.” The policeman replied.
We first set up the leg in the lab and examined the blade for any hints of where this might have taken place and where the rest of the body was or at least the skull. I examined the knee first because I knew from the article “Identifying the Victim” if the person was a Negroid there would be a wide space between the knee joint. It turns out this person was a Negroid, which could narrow this down to fewer people. We searched the database for missing African Americans in the area and 47 results showed up. We needed more evidence.
Soon after a police officer came in, “After examining the blade we found a bit of an apple.” The officer

The evidence found here matches many of the criteria Turner listed as evidence for cannibalism. The combination of cut marks, lack of respect and proper burial, distinct burning patterns, and disarticulation of remains all point to deliberate processing and consumption of the bodies. The lack of canine tooth marks and the “the light color and excellent surface condition of the bones” indicates that the meat was removed through stewing and boiling and was not scavenged by wild animals after death. On top of the osteological evidence, the discovery of a meat processing tool kit found in the context of the human remains in feature 13 indicates the intentional removal of flesh. After conducting blood residue analysis on several of the tools, two sharp cutting flakes tested positive for human blood.…

In the article “Dead men tell no tales”Professor William goodwin says that you can hear dead men talking but only if you are trained to listen properly. Bass can tell the how long the person’s been dead their gender, age and race. Bass did prove that dead men tell tales by looking for thing that stick out or should not be there. That's what Bass does in the Mexico case for example Bass knew exactly that it was arson because the obvious signs such as the fire did not start from the engine. When they started examining the bones bass could tell that the bones were too old for someone in their 30’s.…

Aaron Cole November 20, 2017 Professor Brozgal Paper 2 Murder in Memoriam: Discovery of Truth Taking influence on real historical events, Didier Daeninckx’s prize winning second novel—Murder in Memoriam—crafts the widely known historic reality of the Holocaust with the overlooked tragedy known as the massacre of Algerians on the 17th of October in 1961. The two events are expertly crafted to create a world of universal truth at last acknowledged. Tying these histories together by use of characters, presentation of unknown truth, as well as applying agency to three points of views, Daeninckx works to legitimize the lesser-known events of the Algerians to fully realize the literary purpose of Murder in Memoriam.…

Introduction "Death's Acre" reminisces the career of a forensic hero named Dr. Bill Bass. He is the founder of the wellknown "Body Farm" at the University of Tennessee. This extraordinary site is the world's only research location committed to observing deceased human decomposition. The research information collected at the Body Farm has helped Bass and police solve many grotesque homicides and lock up some very morbid murderers. The story is based mainly around these cases, which give it a tough nosed true crime theme, but it also probes into Dr. Bass's personal life, loves, and losses as well, creating an image of a man who is an idealistic scientist, brilliant detective, eloquent ambassador for murder victims, and an ironically humorous person.…
