Foreign Terrorist Attacks: Controversial And Unplanned

Improved Essays
The United States approach to foreign terrorist attacks have been more so controversial and unplanned. I believe prior to the September 11, 2001 attacks America has been well aware of terroristic motives and underestimated their threats. The United States Intelligence departments believe the main goal of terrorist is to kill Americans in an abundance when their least expect (when their guard is down, For instance, Vietnam). I believe America has went to war with countries (Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan ) to conceal their main motives to combat the Islamic religion or to obtain useful resources (Oil). The United States of America captured Usama Bin Ladin who obtained his education in America and who believed every Muslim should kill an abundance

In October 2001, just one month after the tragic September 11 attacks on the twin towers, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien pledged to support the United States. It was announced that Canada would join a UN-approved NATO coalition attack in Afghanistan (in order to support the United States). Many comparable definitions of what constitutes as “terrorism” exist today, but Bruce Hoffman provides one of the most complete definitions in his book Inside Terrorism. He affirms that terrorism is (1) violence, or the threat of violence, (2) with political goals, (3) that is carried out by a group (4) or organization, (5) that has widespread ramifications and consequences (Hoffman, 2-3). Although there are a host of potential causes of Islamic terrorism, only one can adequately explain its dissension with the United States: the perpetual class struggle that goes on between the United States and the Middle East. Possible causes of Islamic terrorism include religious beliefs, ideological beliefs, oppressive political regime, etc. The goal of…

Almost 8% of these attacks were within or directed against the United States, while the other 92% was directed at other nations. 8% does not seem like a huge number when one thinks about how many countries there are in the world, however 8% is a huge number when one puts it into the perspective that terrorist attacks can occur in a country or they can be against a country.
