Foreign Aid The United States of America is one of the strongest and wealthiest nations on the globe. While not only keeping their defense, peace and security, democracy, and health all in check, they are able to help out the other nations of the world and give approximately 34 billion dollars in foreign aid to other nations in need. The mission statement of the State Department is to “Shape and sustain a peaceful, prosperous, just, and democratic world and foster conditions for stability and progress for the benefit of the American people and people everywhere.” Keeping a democratic state within the countries they help, maintaining health, peace and security, and a stable economy are the main goals of the United States and their foreign aid policy and I believe that they are doing what their intents were and are and that they are accomplishing the goals that were set. When the United States looks at nations to supply money and products to, one of their biggest goals or areas to improve is restoring democracy and peace. One example where they are accomplishing this is in Afghanistan. The United States went into war on October 7, 2001 with the country of Afghanistan. Due to the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, the United States got information of who was responsible for the attack and found out that the leader, Osama Bin Laden, of the group Al Qaeda was being sanctioned within Afghanistan and they refused to turn him over.
