Everything about leadership is hard, it is a tough word to define and an even tougher trait to posses. If you asked one hundred people to tell you what leadership is to them, you will get one hundred different responses. But many of these responses they give you will have the same qualities such as: Inspirational, Guider, and Influencer. One does not become leader by dumb luck especially when talking about big organizations or even countries. So why do countless CEO’s and CFO’s make huge mistakes? For instance the Ford Pinto incident that happened in the 1960’s where the CEO failed to recall the vehicle “Ford Pinto” from production after a flaw was discovered that made the car explode. This is an extreme example of the current moral crisis in leaders decisions making in the business world. Business today have teleological mindsets and are especially focused on the profit maximization part of it. And yes, a big factor of a business is to make money to be able to keep running but this should not be achieved at any cost. Business leaders today have the notion that business decisions have nothing to do with ethical decisions because at the end of the day they are only doing what’s best for the company. In catholic teachings human dignity, common good and solidarity are taught as three of the four key principles. I feel whether you are catholic or not these principles should be applied to everyone’s life. If business leaders were to apply these principles a great deal of their problems would go away. In the Ford Pinto scenario, Ford received backlash from the people that resulted in some consumers boycotting their products creating an even greater amount of loss. By applying human dignity Ford would have not put a number on a person’s life because they now that every person has
