Q1. Discuss and evaluate Ford Group’s corporate level international strategy based on the type of pressures on cost reduction/local responsiveness that is required for this industry.
Ford Motor Co. has seen it all. From the rapid rise in demand for cars in U.S.A. to the entry of the competitive Asian car manufacturers into the market. It is a company which had withstood the test of time due to its diverse brand portfolio. As its other American counterparts such as GM & Chrysler, they too had to face the wrath of rising raw material prices, labour costs and dip in profits in the early 2000s. They simply have to remain on their guard this time around and ensure that they take notice of the new innovations which will end up defying the borders of the industry. What better way to thwart competition than by standing up and facing it head on and making its own mark. Ford can definitely look at innovations which they may be able to conjure up in the coming years. Though driverless cars of Google/Apple are on the verge of being ready, there is still time on hand for Ford to provide the cutting edge technology and experience which they possess in this field and probably a tie-up of some sort with companies getting into such innovations is something the top bosses of Ford could look at. They may also look at launching a few more environmental friendly, fuel efficient vehicles as we go towards a world which is more and more concerned about the resources available. The Uber’s of the world are definitely here to stay. Car sharing and taxi services may be a huge potential scope for a company like Ford. In India, when it comes to taxi services even now after years of its inception, Tata Indica and Ambassadors rule the way in terms of taxis which ply regularly. Ford must not overlook this space either, although it may look a little strange for a brand of Ford’s stature to look at segments like these, but given the wide variety of offerings which Ford has under its shed, this may not be a bad option at
