Synopsis

While Vi Bran celebrates the last day of senior year final exams with a group of friends in a local nightclub, Matt Ludwig, a stranger, steals her from the group and gives her her first kiss. Through Matt’s ability to effortlessly impress a girl, Vi becomes even more interested with the Columbia University undergraduate who is home in Ireland for the summer.

Both spend the rest of the night with each other by the river that gushes through the town centre. This was cut short when Karen, Vi’s best friend, rings her. She rushes back to the nightclub and finds her, extremely drunk, on the sidewalk.

Karen reveals the reason of her unexpected irresponsible actions. Her parents are getting a divorce.

The three heads to Vietnam first. After the unsuccessful search for Steph’s family, it is time to go to the Philippines. Steph decides to stay in Vietnam to give herself more time while Vi and Matt continue to the Philippines.

Standing on the streets of her birthplace, Vi talks about her adoption story to Matt. It was the first time she ever talked about it since the Brans told her. She has been refusing to think about it all these years to avoid the pain.

In an attempt to lift Vi’s spirits up, Matt hires a boat to an island. They enjoy the beaches and the night market, where Matt almost tells Vi that he is falling in love with her.

Steph finds her family and is spending more time with them. Matt and Vi return to Ireland.

Vi knows exactly what Matt wanted to say back in the Philippines. A week before Matt returns to Columbia, they decide to talk. Despite their efforts to convince themselves that they were just friends, they know they are more than that, but neither of them admits this.

Vi jokingly suggest that Matt should drop out of Columbia to stay, which offends Matt. He couldn’t believe she would suggest such ‘silly thing’. They argue until Matt storms
