After reading the stage play “For Colored Girls who have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf,” by Ntozake Shange and watching the film by Tyler Perry I will discuss relationships. Relationships during the present time are what I feel need the most focus. Relationships between a man and a woman as well as relationships between women ( African-American) and how they treat each other depending on their social class was just ridiculous. In both the movie and the stage play the lady in Green in the play and Miss Juanita Sims in the movie is a strong woman who shows progression through both versions. The lady in green/ Juanita Sims shows how she has come to the edge when it comes to relationship with men who like to “Run off with her stuff.”
In the stage play she states how “Somebody almost walked off wid alla my stuff.” When the lady in green is discussing this topic she is speaking on an incident when one of her old lovers walked away with a few of her things. Those things being her body, her memories and her scars, all things that help her grow and progress through life. She would like to have all of her things back, conveying that she is the only person who can determine the value of her life.
In the film Miss Juanita Sims is a strong woman who runs a free health clinic for women who need assistance in the community where she once grew up. Miss Sims continues to stress to the women in her center how important it is to make sure you do not allow a man to “ Run off…
