American Football and basketball are two of the most common sports that are played in many parts of the world. For an individual who is torn between selecting which of the two sports he should play, it can be very helpful to know the characteristics of the two sports and compare these qualities in order to select the one that interests a particular person the most. American Football and basketball have similarities and differences many people do not recognize. Both sports are highly popular and originated in the United States. Each sport has its own crazy fan base that many would not believe what some fans would do for their team like painting their bodies and dying their hair. The entertainment and amusement for the individual is in the eyes …show more content…
Basketballs are round and give a good true bounce every time they hit the court. In basketball, you have to bounce the ball to move around the court, which is called dribbling. If a player does not dribble while they are moving, they are “traveling” with the ball and will give the ball to the other team for violating the rules. On the other hand, footballs have an oblong shape and take some weird bounces when they hit the ground. In football, the players catch the ball and run. If a football player tries to dribble a football like a basketball, they will “fumble” the ball and risk giving the ball to the other team. The football's shape is designed to be aerodynamic so that it can fly better in the air and is easier to catch. In addition, basketballs are larger and heavier than footballs. In football, the main objective of the game is to capture the territory of the opposing team in ten yard segments, eventually driving the ball to the opposing team’s end zone. In basketball, the main objective is to throw the ball as many ways as possible into the opposing team’s basket, given that the more baskets a team makes, the higher the score …show more content…
Basketball courts are much shorter and narrower than football fields. “An NBA game court is 94 feet long and 50 feet wide, divided in half by a midcourt line. Each half is a mirror image of the other” (NBA- The Game Court). A football field is much larger than that. “The field is 360 feet long and 160 feet wide. The end zones are 30 feet deep. The line used in try-for-point plays is two yards out from the goal line” (NFL Rules Digest: Field). Most football games can be played outside in the weather or like some teams in a dome covering the stadium. While football is in most cases played outdoors in areas that may not necessarily have artificial lighting or controlled temperatures, basketball is mostly played in indoor fields that have both artificial lighting and temperature control. Basketball is primary played indoors on a wooden surface, although some play outside on concrete. Football is played on grass or artificial turf.
Both basketball and football are considered team sports since there are several people playing at once. Basketball teams are permitted to play with five players on the court at one time, while football teams play with eleven at a time. Basketball teams usually have between twelve and fifteen players on the roster, while football rosters can range from 50 in professional play to 85 in college

Although these athletics seem to be the same as one another with similar names, football and futbol have multiple key differences and similarities. Football, a sport resembling rugby, uses an egg-shaped, inflated leather ball to score points in multiple ways including a touchdown, safety, field goal, and extra point that originated in America. Futbol, originating in Europe, and known as soccer, uses an oval-shaped leather ball and has players pass the ball with their feet to attempt to shoot into the goal defended by the opposing team's goalie. The sports relate with being a contact sport, going into overtime, and gaining a large fan base. The athletics also differ from proper tackles, ways of sudden death, and location of popularity.…

The football that we see in the National Football League (NFL) is the same as the Canadian Football League (CFL), but with different teams and rules. In the NFL, a team has four chances to get a first down (getting the ball ten yards), but in the CFL they only get three chances. Not only is the amount of downs different, but so are the amount of players on the field. In the NFL, there are eleven players on the field, opposed to the CFL, where there are twelve! In the CFL, they can fit twelve people onto the field easier because the field is bigger than the NFL’s field.…

There has been an increase of rules in all sports to try and minimize the chance of a head injury. In the game of soccer, a rule has been added that limits the amount of times a player can use his or her head to propel the ball in any direction. The NFL also added rules to the game of football. “Finally, the league also implemented two rule changes that go into effect this season with the intent of augmenting player safety. First, an offensive player who is attempting to catch a ball that's been intercepted will be ruled defenseless and cannot be hit in the head or neck area by the intercepting team as possession changes or a penalty will be enforced.…

I asked my mother at one point and she explained somethings like, who the quarterback is and how a touchdown is made, but other then that it didn’t make sense. I can't even began to tell you how many times I asked my mother how the game works. I had watched football games for my bother, and even in high school, but the game was just a bunch of players in padding running after another player who had the ball.…

Although they get to play this many games, they still sometimes get play in playoff games and championship games at the end of the season. College players are going into the NBA younger and younger these days, but that might not be the best choice. If they aren’t good enough, right after freshman year they should stay longer to get better. If they take all four years they could have a degree to have another job if they don’t make it to the NBA. College athletes should stay in school for all four years because they might not succeed right away in the Pros, they could get a better education, even though they love the sport they play this would help them.…

In basketball, the rules mainly stay the same from elementary to college games, but a handful of rules are changed in football when one turns a certain age or is in a certain grade. To add on, there are less positions to learn in basketball than there is in football. During a football game, there are twenty-two players in all on the field. Each of those players play a different role in the game, with the exception of the few repeated positions. A couple nameable offensive positions are the receivers, the center, and the guard, and defensive positions include the linebackers, the safeties, and the cornerbacks.…
