Football Tipping Matrix Analysis

Tipping competitions play an immense role in the popularity of football in Australia. Football tipping is a competition in which people pick the winners from a week’s or season’s games in a football league and as a result for winning the competition, can collect huge awards such as merchandise or money. These days’ football tipping competitions are seriously taken and are fought out fiercely in order win big. Competitors search wide in order to gain a possible advantage against their rivals and this can come in the form of matrices.
A matrix is an array of numbers arranged in rows and columns. There are a number of basic operations which can be applied to matrices in order to form different forms of matrices, these include matrix addition, matrix multiplication and even matrix subtraction. The different form of matrices that these functions can produce include dominance matrices, transition matrices, connectivity matrices and Leslie matrices. The formula of a supremacy matrix is S=D+D^2+D^3 in which D represents first order victories, D2 represents second order victories and D3 represents third order victories. The three models that will be investigated throughout this investigation are - S=D+D^2+D^3, S=8D+4D^2+D^3 and S=6D+3D^2+D^3. Each of these models will be investigated for the bonus point and without bonus point system. Using the rank system, the results for the matches from round 6 to round 10 will be predicted and the predictions will be compared to the actual winners. This information will be used to calculate the efficiency of each model. The hypothesis is that the more complicated model which use the bonus point system will be more efficient in predicting the results of the
