Football Safety Essay

Throughout the years, football has become an increasingly popular sport. From peewee leagues all the way to the NFL, football is played on a daily basis. Although it has been viewed as an American sport and pastime, the concern for safety within these leagues has become prominent over the past decade. Most people associate football as a dangerous sport and some injuries can be career and even life-ending. When football first started as a sport in the early 1900s, there was no knowledge about the impact of the physicality needed and endured throughout games. Because of the constant body-slamming, brain injuries have become more and more common with football players. This has sparked a movement to create a safer game of football and treat injuries more seriously than they used to. In my research paper, I plan to answer the question of “How has risk management and safety issues in football impacted how football is played today.” First, I want to give the reader insight into the background of football and how it started. Some people object and say that playing football is a risk altogether and that taking such precautionary measures takes away from the original game of football. I plan on rebutting this argument by giving reasons why the safety and health of the football players should always come first before others enjoyment. Overall, safety in football is something that needs to be taken seriously. Because of the millions of people that participate in such a dangerous sport, it’s important to look into how preventative measures can be taken in order to allow participants to still enjoy a sport that they love while being as safe as they can. I think that this topic is something that should be looked at in-depth because of the number of injuries that happen every year, and how the future can be changed if safety is implemented as the number one
