Football Player Observation

Improved Essays
#12 What do you think of when someone says the word football player? Characteristics like cocky and arrogant came to mind when I asked myself this question before my interview. I’ve had a few interactions with football players at parties and have also observed their mannerisms from a far. My personal observations led me to believe that they are just out to win the game, party after and end up with a pretty girl by the end of the night. Not to dis credit all of their hard work during the game, but the ‘I’m-better-than-everyone-just-because-I play-football’ attitude overrides everything else.

Dellechiaie looks up to the top of the stands right next to the announcers box to see his family. They seem to be wearing the brightest colors in the crowd. I interrupt him because something triggered in my memory. I remembered watching one of Dellechiaie’s interviews after his team had one the super bowl at Gillette Stadium. When the reporter asked him how they made such a come back, he responded, “No one believed in us, it was just our team, we came together as a family and we believed in us when no one else did.” I couldn’t believe I had not taken that heartfelt statement into consideration before, I did not even allow it to enter my brain. “How does it make you feel when you look up and you see your whole family in the stands?” He shakes his head and smiles uncontrollably. “Nice” He laughs. “Bring em’ all together n’ shit.” I learn that Dellechiaie’s parents got divorced years ago and home life has not been the same

Money Pit “It’s reminiscent of a shark that will die if it doesn’t keep moving and ripping little fish to shreds”, says Mark Lebovich of the New York Times. American Football has become a religion. American Football is everywhere and seems to be governed by some Constitution-like power. “The sport provides a belief system at a time when faith in so many community institutions - government, religion, actual families – is weakening.” Currently the league faces many challenges such as player health and safety, drop in youth-football participation, lawsuits and keeping the model that football was built on alive.…

It was a cold and windy evening at Heinz Field with the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Dallas Cowboys. Since 2002, the song Renegade has become a staple of Pittsburgh Steelers football, it is used in the fourth quarter right before the defense takes the field as a way to wake up the crowd and energize the entire stadium. With the game tied at thirteen and the Steelers already having scored ten fourth quarter points, Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys took the field only to be welcomed by the Steeler Defense and the melodic echoing of Renegade ringing through the stadium. The whole stadium came to life with yellow towels waving all over the place and a few plays later, the Steeler defense intercepted Tony Romo for the game-winning touchdown. After hearing that song, my whole body had chills all over and I am confident I could say the same about the rest of the Steelers fans in attendance that…
