I had practiced this so many times before, I had the drill down but I still had butterflies dancing in my stomach. The butterflies became dragonflies when the flew straight to me instead of Mario like we had practiced. With a boom the ball flew into the air and with the stadium lights shining bright, the ball took a bounce and I grabbed it. I was startled at first because I wasn't really supposed to get the ball; I panicked. “Follow me!” Mario yelled as he took the lead in front of me. The crowd roared and I was hit with a rush of adrenaline. I could smell the sweat and freshly painted grass all around me, the stench burning my nose. I was scared but excited, I had never got the ball during a game and this was my moment. I felt like I had to do good but I didn't need a touchdown; I just needed a few yards and to hold on to the ball. I felt the ball slipping in my hands, so I wrapped my arms around like I was bracing for a big hit. Just then my gut wrenched as I realized that every player in a black jersey was coming for me like I had a target on my chest. Then I remembered that every player in a white jersey had a job to block and keep those black jerseys away from the ball, and me, which calmed me down. …show more content…
After a few steps I lost control, adrenaline was the driver and I was just along for the ride. I looked up and saw bodies much bigger than me blocking the endzone; they were like a wall closing in on me. I had nowhere to go. Everything was a blur of white and black. The crack of pads and helmets burst in my ears with every hit. Every step jolted my legs and shook my whole body. I felt like a king protecting his kingdom, and the other team were the invaders determined to see me fall. I felt the sting of an earlier injury and winced knowing that would hurt later, after the adrenaline
