There were many hours spent in the gym preparing for every game played throughout the year. The laps up and down the court sprinting to get into shape all to prepare for the one moment of glory. Knowing now that anything is possible I probably should have put more effort into every practice I had. For me this year will be different. I have already spent more time training. I played over the summer with some of the best teams in the area. Making myself better was the goal of the summer. When school started I knew going to open gyms could be the game changer. We had 7.5 seconds to bring the ball down the court and make a shot. The coach drew out a play on his clip board and we knew what we needed to do. I ran down to the baseline and threw the ball in bounds as the guards raced down the floor to try and get the ball inside to our post player. As the guards crossed half court they met a wall of defense and the clock was ticking down. With defense close the guard threw me the ball and with less than a second left and I took the shot from the volleyball line. After I shot the ball I closed my eyes because I was afraid to know what was going to happen. It was at that very moment I heard the crowd erupt and my team swarm around me screaming. We just won the game. In this moment my life was changed. I knew I had made a shot that most people only dream of.
This night was a special night for the girls basketball team. Making the shot during this game meant even more because of the meaning behind the game. Tonight’s game was what our team called pink night. On this night we honor those who have battled cancer. On this night I always seem to have a little more fire in me.
