Football is one of the most popular sports in the US. Everyone has some connection to football. Kids play football very early, and people watch football a lot on the weekend.Everybody likes football, but not everybody understands the injury of football. High impact injuries cause concussions and head trauma, and now there is controversy about the safety of high impact sports.

Since so many players get hurt in football, some parents are not letting their kids play until high school. Terrell Fletcher who plays for the Chargers did not let his son play until high school because he was worried about his son getting hit too much. In the article, Terrell Fletcher states, “‘Boys will be boys. They’re going to push each other to the ground,’ he says. ‘But i didn’t see the need to have it done intentionally at such a young age’” (17). In some places kids are choosing not to play football because of all kinds of injuries. At a school in Missouri, “...the school board cut the football team because fewer than a dozen players had signed up for the fall 2015 season”(17).This school ended up shutting down their football team because nobody really wanted to play. Football is changing because people are worried about the injuries. Since there are so many injuries in football the rules are beginning to change. Better equipment is needed to protect players. One example is helmets are getting better. The techniques of football also need to change. Coaches need to teach the players how to tackle better so they don’t hurt themselves or the other player. The idea of how coaches run practices needs to change. The practices need to have less tackling. If they had fewer full-contact practice sessions this would mean fewer hits to the head and fewer brain
