"In the first ten weeks of the 2015-16 season, the NFL had already added 97 players to the injury list with concussions or similar injuries, after accumulated a total of 123 concussed players in the previous season"(Flynn, 2016). This is startling because the amount of concussions in the NFL has increased in a quicker amount of time then compared to the previous season which shows more concussions are becoming more frequent. As concussions are more prevalent in NFL, many people do not understand the term concussion. Concussion means a complex pathophysiological process that affects the brain, typically induced by trauma to the brain. In which concussions are brain injuries that can have serious effects if a person has multiple concussions.

This statement from the representative of the Simbex company is just one of the many companies working towards a solution to reduce a majority of concussions. Since the beginning of football helmet to helmet hits have been occurring without anyone aware of the problems associated with concussions. Only until recently when Dr. Bennet Omalu examined multiple football players such as Andre Waters, Terry Long, and Justin Strzelczyk once they had killed themselves and found that they had CTE. CTE is Chronic Tramuatic Encephalopathy which is found in brain injuries from multiple traumatic hits. Many people were astonished by these findings and went to the NFL to see if they had known about the CTE being a factor after so many concussions. Yet when the NFL answered the question they responded saying "The NFL has disagreed with the findings of linking retired NFL players to increased likelihoods of CTE" (Zarda, 2007). Afterwords many companies saw Dr. Omalu's findings and set the goal to finding a better helmet to prevent concussions. One company has come out with a new helmet call "Xenith" and inside the helmet it has gel foamed packs to reduce the impact of hits on the head. This helmet is also made from Polycarbonate metal that makes for a hard helmet to reduce impacts of hits.
