In American Football you have many different phases of the game. Defense is one of those phases. In earliest decades of football competition pro football coaches stacked the line with approximately nine-seven and six defense fronts to stop opponents from heavy running of their day. In the 1940s, in National Football League (also known as NFL) coach name Greasy Neale alter the nine-seven-six defense into five man fronts and four men secondary that was successful in defending the run and pass. There are three linebackers, a Mike, a Will, and Sam linebacker. This scheme has two Cornerbacks and two safeties. What is a defense Tackle? According to Joe Daniel football, “A defense tackles in a 4-3 defense will need to be very strong and big, capable of winning one-on-one matchups against an offensive guard. “ They must be able to defeat double teams without giving so much ground, either by strength or proper technique.” “It is important that these players have proper body position to handle different offensive blocking schemes (Daniel 10).” A defense tackle must be prepared to sacrifice themselves at the start of each play on the field, keeping the offense guards from getting a clean release to inside or mike linebacker. Defensive tackle in reality does not have to be the traditional big and strong, because there are two defensive tackles in the 4-3 scheme. One could be the strong and fast weak-side defensive tackle and the other defensive tackle could be the traditional big and strong-side defensive tackle.
