Thrill of Playoffs The NFL playoffs is a time of great joy and excitement for the players and their fans to watch and play the great game of football. Talented football players battle it out on the field to see who can win the covenant super bowl title. However, to get to that point, the teams have to have a great regular season record and win games in the playoffs. The disappointment is that only twelve out of the thirty teams get into the playoffs and have a chance to win the super bowl. I propose that the playoffs be expanded to fourteen teams because it will draw more fans to the game, more meaningful games in the regular season, and there is just more football games.. Accordingly, this lack of competition has occurred because “Every season there are a handful of games late in the year that are essentially playoff games; two teams competing for the same spot with similar records. Those games would definitely become more prevalent with an extra wild-card spot up for grabs”(Sanderson). The season just flashes by your eyes without really enjoying football. Expanding the playoffs will give the fans to just watch more football because football just excites you and gives you a feeling of adrenaline. This is also a benefit for the players because “If there is a longer season, players would receive half of the additional revenues generated by those two extra games”(Bloom).The extra games gives everybody a reward of watching or playing the great game of football. People opposed to this idea say that bad teams will make the playoffs who do not deserve. They say that the competition is less and players do not try as hard. Well, there is a term called a upset which the worse team beats the favored team. Upsets happen in all major sports including “the United States hockey team defeating the Soviet Union at the 1980 Winter Olympics topped every list. The Soviets were the favorites heading into this game, as they were a team full of tradition and experience. The Americans, on the other hand, were made up of a bunch of random players, most of whom were college players or nobodies.”(Chase). Every game, match, or tournament, every team has a chance.
