For many years, there have been several foodborne illnesses that have caused people to become sick. Foodborne illnesses may result in a compromise in someone’s health. One of the most common pathogens that causes illness is the bacteria Salmonella. For many years, individuals have conducted research on Salmonella, but many still do not fully understand the many different serotypes of the disease. Several people have different perceptions of the illness itself, how susceptible people can be to it, and the precautions are taken to avoid getting sick. Salmonellosis is a food poisoning that is treatable, although recent studies show there is a perceived difference in the way people who have had salmonellosis and those who have not look at the illness. First, salmonella is not a new concept in the United States. According to the Center for Disease Control, it was discovered nearly 125 years ago by an American scientist. The CDC is constantly monitoring salmonella and the outbreaks that occur for this illness (CDC, 2015). In a book written by De Santos and Monte, they discuss the bacteria salmonella and what exactly causes someone to become sick from it. With the study, many people who experienced Salmonella before, use precautions as needed and are more aware of the illness itself. Salmonella is constantly changing serotypes, and it is hard for the CDC to trace the exact serotype to an outbreak. Therefore, people need to become aware of the illness and take the necessary steps to avoid getting sick. For most people, symptoms of Salmonellosis last a few days, but for some, they can last longer and cause major health effects. To battle Salmonellosis, people need to become education and not become blind to the illness and know the risks and take precautions so people can avoid contaminated foods and
