As I would walk out the door in the morning to go to my practicum, I noticed my running shoes and wished to go on a run. My last trigger was my workout clothes. According to chiropractors one of the worse things to do to yourself is crack your own neck. I was unaware of this fact up until a few weeks ago; I never realized I could become paralyzed or possibly die just from simply cracking my own neck. I decided to stop once and for all but I never realized how hard it would be. I was so accustomed to cracking my neck that by the time I realized I was cracking one side of my neck, it was too late to stop and I had to “finish” the job.…

Essay one provided ways that I could teach my students how they can be proactive in their local communities. Once I read the essay about the canned food drive I had a different thought of canned food drives. These people also need many daily essentials such as a toothbrush, soap, or even deodorant. This essay in my opinion gave so much insight on the underlying necessities that are needed by homeless people or people living in poverty.…

The field of psychology covers many topics of human behavior, but phobias and addictions are often its practical applications in everyday life. Through classic and operant conditioning, subjects can be lead into powerful phobias or addictions which can affect their lives to the point of intervention. These phobias and addictions can be nearly impossible to get over without the process of extinction. Through the implementation of classic and operant conditioning, we can explore the deep-seated root of phobias and addictions as well as the extinction of them. Classic conditioning is defined as “A procedure by which a previously neutral stimulus comes to elicit a response after it is paired with a stimulus that automatically elicits that response” (Kowalski & Westen, 2011, p. 164) and was made known by Russian psychologist Ivan Pavlov.…

Widdicombe concludes his article “The End of Food” with a beautiful sentiment, “The Soylent dream is a strange one: a place where our food-related hopes mingle with our nightmares.” The article arouses a sense of cognitive dissonance within us and Widdicombe’s sentiment further perpetuates the uneasy feeling. I was amazed by what a simple yet complex invention Soylent was however at the same time had an uneasy feeling due to the nature of its existence meaning “the end of food”. Widdicombe is smart in his conclusion and explains while the invention can provide potential “hope” it can just as well provide a potential “nightmare”. Soylent carries “hope” to potentially greatly impact and advance the fields of nutrition and medicine as well as…

Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…
