Food waste is a vital issue in the United States. "Americans throw away almost as much food as much food they eat," says Suzanne Goldenberg, writer of "U.S. Throws Away Half of All Food Produce." This is an example why food waste is a problem. We as Americans don't notice this problem and that resorts to food waste. "Currently in the US, over 97% of food waste is estimated to be buried in landfills," says J.W. Levis writer of "Assessment of the State of Food Waste Treatment in the United States and Canada." This show how much room food waste is taking up, soon we may not even have that percentage and that could impact many citizens in the United States. In "U.S. Throws Away Half of All Food Produce," Goldenberg states that, " Imperfect Produce is delivery service for "ugly" food in the San Francisco Bay Area. It estimates that one-fifth of all fruit and vegetables are thrown out because of flaws." This example shows that we hinder our ability to keep the landfills clear of food waste because we are too indecisive with how our food looks then the health of our environment. This is why food waste takes up much needed room in
