Haiti has schools, public and private, but they’re expensive and a long-term investment that most Haitians don’t have money or time for. Most children in Haiti have no chance of education, and most of them have never attended school before. Even those that are fortunate enough to attend school, their education is not good quality. Brenden McNulty says “Ask anyone about education in Haiti and the first thing they’ll tell you is that most primary schools are private and that their quality ranges from questionable to awful.” (par. 6) in his article “The Education of Poverty: Rebuilding Haiti’s School System After its ‘Total Collapse’.” In Haiti, schools don’t even need a permit for a school, and teachers aren’t that great either. Knowledge and skill sets can help improve a lot of things. If they have skills they can start their own businesses, other than farming. With new businesses comes new products and more profits. With more profits they can increase their trading with other countries for the things that they can’t produce. If Haiti trades with other countries, they can become very wealthy in products. With more education Haitians can learn to help themselves. One example is they could learn to build their own houses and reconstruct their towns. If we can lend them our knowledge and some resources, Haiti can become and independent country and revive their community. There are many other solutions to helping Haiti, they just aren’t as effective. Sure, every country could send them all of their canned foods, or raise a bunch of money, but after it’s all gone, they’ll just be in the same boat. You can’t succeed by getting everything handed to you, you have to work for what you want. Having help and someone to push you is good, but you also need to help
